Medical device manufacturer B. Braun Medical Inc., of Bethlehem, filed a federal patent infringement lawsuit against a competitor this week over infusion pump systems.
B. Braun sued CareFusion 303 Inc. on Monday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Ill.
The lawsuit claims five B. Braun patents were infringed in CareFusion’s Alaris System infusion pumps and smart medication systems.
“This lawsuit was necessary to protect B. Braun’s highly valuable technology and patent rights,” said Gale White, B. Braun’s vice president of the infusion systems division.
A spokeswoman for CareFusion, which is based in San Diego, Calif., said the company is reviewing the lawsuit.
Suzanne Hatcher of CareFusion said the suit comes a week after CareFusion sued B. Braun in federal court in California for patent infringement on needleless valve connectors, medical devices that are accessories to infusion pumps.
CareFusion filed that lawsuit on Aug. 23, Hatcher said.
