Knobbe Martens and Nine Attorneys Recognized as Top in Industry by LMG Life Sciences
Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP partners Ned Israelsen, Christy Lea, Sabing Lee, Steve Maddox, Joseph Re, Joe Reisman, Gerard von Hoffmann, William Zimmerman and founding partner, Don Martens, have been recognized as Life Sciences Stars for their intellectual property practices in the inaugural edition of LMG Life Sciences 2012 published by Managing Intellectual Property. In addition, the firm was recognized in the Intellectual Property Rankings.
To compile the lists, the LMG Life Sciences research team conducted nearly 1,000 surveys and interviews with lawyers in the United States, performed a review of public information, and garnered feedback from clients within the industry. The end result is a resource containing listings and analysis of the leading law firms and attorneys in the life sciences sector for pharmaceutical and life sciences executives seeking legal expertise.
Knobbe Martens was recognized for its work on the national stage and for its wealth of technical experience that allows the firm to help its clients protect their IP from start to finish. Ned Israelsen, managing partner of the firm’s San Diego office, was recognized for his intellectual property patent prosecution practice. Christy Lea was recognized for her general patent litigation/protection and Hatch-Waxman litigation practice. In particular, she was lauded for her work with combination products, home health and consumer devices, surgery and life support devices, and general hospital devices and supplies. This recognition follows Ms. Lea being recently named as a top ten life science litigator in the United States by LMG Life Sciences' sister publication, Managing IP magazine.
Sabing Lee was noted as being among the top patent strategists in the country for his patent prosecution, patent advisory, strategy and management practice. Lee was further recognized for his work with tissue and tissue products, home health and consumer devices, surgery and life support devices, dental devices, general hospital devices and supplies, cosmetic devices, implants and prosthetics, and cardiovascular devices.
Steven Maddox was recognized for his general patent litigation/protection and Hatch-Waxman litigation practice specifically for biosimilars and combination products.
Don Martens, now of counsel to Knobbe Martens, focuses his practice on serving as an arbitrator and special master in intellectual property cases.
Joseph Re was recognized for his intellectual property litigation practice. Re represents clients in all types of intellectual-property disputes throughout the country for both patent holders and accused infringers. He recently led the Knobbe Martens team that helped client Smith & Nephew receive a favorable decision against an infringement lawsuit by Kinetic Concepts.
Joseph Reisman was recognized in all areas of the survey which include patent prosecution, patent advisory, strategy and management, general patent litigation/protection, and Hatch-Waxman litigation specifically for biosimilars. His practice is focused on chemical and pharmaceutical technologies, and encompasses both patent portfolio development and patent litigation.
Gerard von Hoffmann was recognized for his patent prosecution, patent advisory, strategy and management practice. Von Hoffmann was recognized for his work in the areas of surgery and life support devices, general hospital devices and supplies, implants and prosthetics, and cardiovascular devices.
William Zimmerman, noted as an outstanding attorney for high-stakes pharmaceutical litigation, was also recognized in all areas of the survey. Zimmerman was further recognized for his work in biologics, biosimilars, combination products, allergenics, antibiotics, vaccines, and dental devices. He was also noted for helping client Ranbaxy receive a favorable decision, allowing the company to market a generic version of Lipitor, the world’s best-selling drug.
