Affinity Medical Technologies, a Costa Mesa manufacturer of medical device connectors, was acquired last week by Molex Incorporated for an undisclosed amount.

Molex, which produces electronic connectors, is based in Lisle, Illinois. Robert Frank, founder and general manager of Affinity, said the Orange County company will become Molex’s headquarters for medical products.

Affinity, an FDA-registered medical device manufacturer, creates devices for original equipment manufacturers, including Cardiac Science, Philips Healthcare and Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences.

“Molex is not currently in the medical space, and they recognized Affinity for its strengths,” Frank said.

All Affinity business departments, from its executive team to manufacturing unit, are housed in a 45,000-square-foot facility in Costa Mesa. Affinity has approximately 240 employees and Frank said he does not expect any layoffs as a result of the acquisition. The company plans to post seven new positions in engineering, manufacturing and quality in Costa Mesa and also plans to hire 10 to15 manufacturing technicians next year.

Eventually, Frank said, he would like to grow the company to take over the remainder of the 75,000 sq. feet building Affinity leases from C.J. Segerstrom & Sons, also based in Costa Mesa.

As general manager, Frank will report to the integrated products division of Molex.

Molex trades on the NASDAQ Global Select Market and closed Monday at $25.71. For the fiscal year ended June 30, Molex reported $3.5 billion in net revenue.
