Sumaia Tabassum is an associate based in the New York office, specializing in patent prosecution and IP strategy. Sumaia’s practice focuses on medical devices, biotechnology, chemical and pharmaceuticals, as well as aesthetics and personal care products.
Prior to her legal career, Sumaia served as a Senior Systems Development Analyst for Accenture Federal Services, where she led a team in advancing data and functional architecture for a large federal client. Her experience in this role provided her with invaluable insights into complex technological systems.
During her time in law school, Sumaia served as the Managing Symposium Editor of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal. Additionally, Sumaia showcased her entrepreneurial spirit as a competitor in the Georgetown Iron Tech Lawyers Competition. In this competition, she spearheaded the development of two innovative web and mobile applications aimed at leveraging technology to enhance access to legal assistance. Her participation underscored her dedication to merging legal expertise with cutting-edge technology to drive positive change in the legal field.
Outside of her patent practice, Sumaia is involved in the New York Intellectual Property Law Association and the Muslim Bar Association of New York. Sumaia is also a member of Knobbe’s Pro Bono Committee.
