Lance D. Smemoe

Lance D. Smemoe is a partner in our Orange County office.

Mr. Smemoe’s practice focuses on all aspects of patent prosecution, licensing, due diligence, enforcement, and counseling.  He helps businesses build valuable patent portfolios for inventions in the fields of physics and optics, medical devices, software, electronics, and business methods.  He provides advice on patent infringement, validity, appeals, post-grant proceedings, and portfolio strategy. 

His technical experience includes medical devices associated with vial access technology, non-invasive and invasive patient monitoring, spectroscopic analysis, laparoscopic procedures, drug delivery, healthcare IT, robotic endoscopy, and radiation therapy. Other areas of technical emphasis include semiconductor fabrication, vapor deposition processes, high performance computing, wireless charging, LED lighting, daylighting, optical filtering, ophthalmic devices, and advanced heating and cooling.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Smemoe served as a law clerk for an ICANN-approved domain name dispute resolution service provider.  He was a summer associate with the firm in 2005 and also worked as a law clerk at other intellectual property law firms.

Mr. Smemoe joined the firm in 2006 and became a partner in 2012.
