Heungsoo Choi

With more than 24 years of experience in US IP laws and over four years of experience in Korean patent law, Heungsoo is skilled in taking challenging patents that are languishing at the USPTO and getting them allowed quickly. Heungsoo excels in succeeding where other IP lawyers have failed. One of his clients, who benefited from Heungsoo’s skills, said: “Client invention + Heungsoo = Patent.”

Heungsoo was named among best lawyers by “The Best Lawyers in America” (One to Watch category) in 2021 – 2025.

His practice is focused on strategic patent procurement with a strong emphasis on strategic claim drafting for quick allowance (frequently combined with faster track examination) and USPTO examiner interviews, building and managing a complex patent portfolio (domestic and international), appeals to the PTAB, Ex Parte reexamination, broadening reissue, landscape analysis, due diligence, opinions, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, position paper, and sending and responding to cease and desist letters. Heungsoo has extensive international practice, including Asia and Europe. He regularly visits Korea and gives presentations regarding U.S. intellectual property matters. Heungsoo also has experience in reviewing and revising IP agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, consulting agreements, manufacturing agreements, supply agreements, joint development agreements, software development agreements and licensing agreements.

He also has experience in filing and prosecuting trademark applications and preparing and/or reviewing trademark license agreements.

Heungsoo also coordinated managing multiple state court litigations relating to breach of contract and copyright infringement involving consumer electrical devices and computer software.

He currently represents clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-up companies (he is currently working with many startups). He has experience and knowledge in a wide range of technologies including: electrical, telecommunication, computer (hardware/software), semiconductor and medical devices.
