Morgan Coates

Morgan R. Coates is a partner in the firm’s Orange County office. He focuses on securing patent protection for startup companies that develop computer software systems, mechanical and electromechanical machines, and biomedical devices. By utilizing his extensive engineering experience, Mr. Coates can obtain a visceral understanding of the complex science behind a client’s technology.

As a former engineer in the aerospace industry, Mr. Coates has experience working with software, mechanical, and electromechanical systems. Mr. Coates obtained his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  

Mr. Coates worked as a summer associate at the firm in 2011 and joined the firm in 2012.
